A few months ago, I was flicking through a few Magazines and came across the Spring/Summer 2010 Sportmax campaign featuring Siri Tollerod. Since then, I have developed an undying love for bleached eyebrows.
The androgynous “no eyebrow” look is quickly becoming one of the most dramatic and hottest beauty trends for Spring/Summer. This new facial phenomenon has been seen throughout shows at Givenchy, Prada, Armani, and Alexander McQueen, and is now slowly filtering into mainstream street fashion.
Now, appreciating the look and having the confidence to actually lighten your own are two different things entirely. I made the stupid mistake when I was younger by shaving my eyebrows off and swore I’d never go down that route again. But, I was very lucky to have my friend and fellow bleached ‘brow model Ruby, guide me through the dying procedure. I was reassured that if I didn’t like it, there were plenty of products on the market that could restore my eyebrows to their natural colour.
For those of you that don’t have the time or money to get your eyebrows bleached professionally, fear not! Jolen bleach is a safe and cheap alternative that makes life a little bit easier when it comes to the constant maintenance (believe me re-bleaching at least once a week is a necessity to tackle re-growth). Want a less permanent solution? M.A.C Senior Artist Romero Jennings suggests applying M.A.C Duo Adhesive to your eyebrows and going over them with a powder foundation that matches your skin tone.
Granted, this extreme look is not for everyone. It dramatically changes the visual structure of your face, when I first removed the bleach - I had to double take as I hardly recognised myself. You also have to take into consideration if you are strong enough to deal with reactions from the general public, not everyone is going to approve, because lets be serious - looking like an androgynous mannequin/alien is hardly the definition of tradition beauty.
Turns out I didn’t need to worry, as I absolutely love how they look on me. Regardless of what anyone else thinks…..
